Fashion trends under the microscope: perforation
Lace, sensual transparency of clothing or just punctured tissue, holes in the furniture and even in concrete panels are bright omen of the period of 2012-2014. It seems that the designers, as if by agreement, have taken up the punch and began to make holes in everything that comes to hand. Many well-known brands use the perforation in the collections of 2012-2014. Blumarine Fashion House created modern bomber jacket from an old English lace. Christian Dior Fashion House presented the mini-dress with symmetrical slots, and designers of the brand Balmain borrowed the idea of the dresses in wicker chairs by Thonet brand. In everyday life, our favorite embroidery or Broder lace, which simultaneously represents purity, freshness and naivete, widely ised. It is used everywhere: for children’s dresses, linens to ethnic blouses, summer coats and bridesmaid dresses. Slots not only in geometrical, but also in circular shape decorate men’s and women’s clothing. The transition from geometric shapes to circle form is also a tribute to the astrological influences that we saw in the publications by Veronica Tkachenko: «Fashion trends under the microscope: black and white graphics», «Jupiter in Cancer: fashion as forefeeling», «Jupiter in Leo: shine always, shine everywhere!».
The most aggressive examples of perforation found in leather products. John Richmond leather jackets finished with smooth symmetrical slots therefore appear stitched from the grid. Costume National leather jackets released in rock, perforated with tiny holes, with metal edging. The same corporate identity preserved in the other products of the brand: cases for iPad and miniature clutches. Circle form as a symbol of Sun, ruler of Leo, is increasingly found in interior design. Imaginatively designed holes on the host tree and cardboard are characteristic of creative handwriting artist Lucio Fontana, the author of innovative series of «Spatial concept».
Whence this fashion trend originates? History shows that the appearance of lace and specially treated fabrics refers to the Renaissance. This era is famous for its sculptural forms, intricate styles of clothing. In accordance with the needs of the time there is a new technology for processing of tissues. Devore silk with relief structure allows to create sophisticated draping and tailoring.
Let’s refer to another period, closer to our time. The first samples of artistic holed things appear in the early 80-ies in the collection by Comme de Garsons. There were pullovers with torn holes and so-called «Post-nuclear suits». Simultaneously the emergence of new fashion trends marked: pauperism, characteristic for an expensive Japanese avant-garde. Noteworthy is the fact that it was Japan who survived the horrors of the atomic bomb, was able to reach a new level of artistic perception and initiate a new direction.
What celestial influences contributed to the emergence of this unusual phenomenon? We have an explanation in terms of Fashion Astrology. Subject of our research — perforation — has complex origin and affects just two threads. First, the perforation is so clever and beautiful, it looks like lace. Secondly, perforation reverses the usual properties of the original material and gives it a new quality. So let’s talk about each of them individually and look at the planets-significators.
Most often we see fashion transformation associated with transits of Jupiter through the Zodiac. This is not surprising, since Jupiter is the main social planet. Thanks to Jupiter we opened moments of cardinal changes in fashion, learn to identify the main color of the season, coined the term «zone of generosity», etc. Ability to respond to changes in fashion, associated with Jupiter cycle, means having intuition, ability to capture current trends and understand the needs of society. A good designer should have these qualities to create fashion.
The first characteristic of perforation — similarities with lace — is associated with Jupiter. During the 2012-2014, opposition aspect between Jupiter in Canser and Pluto in Capricorn formed. It symbolizes the conflict between the principle of expansion, but in a very limited area (Jupiter closed, water sign of Cancer) and the principle of transformation (Pluto in Capricorn, the sign of a very dense and rigid structure). As we can see, the result of this fight becomes celestial fabric punched in the most unexpected places.
The second characteristic of perforation — the acquisition of new properties of the material — is associated with Saturn. This planet is responsible for the form, structure and design of clothes. In the life of Saturn represents law and order, a sense of duty and responsibility, understanding, what is possible and what is not. Why are we talking about the qualities of Saturn in usual life? Because life is interconnected with fashion.
In the early 80-xx, at the birth of a new fashion trend, Saturn is in Scorpio. Even novice astrologers know that Scorpio is associated with the transformation, death and rebirth, the transition to a new quality. Ruler of Scorpio is Pluto, the planet of nuclear reactions, latent power and uncontrollable energy. Principles of Saturn under management of Pluto appear very peculiar. They are expressed in breaking all the old, obsolete and creating a new, unusual shape and structure. Artfully ragged and perforated cloths suddenly become prestigious things. Boiled jeans today appear a real barbarism, but 30 years ago they were the most desirable thing.
After 30 years, Saturn is again in the sign of Scorpio. Fashion previous years reborn in a new interpretation. Modern technologies allow to handle the materials freely and cut them, as if it were a piece of butter. Mesh leather, fur lace, weaving of wood, concrete weightless, compliant plastic chair — it’s not fancy, but the result of skillful perforation.
How long perforation fashion will exist? For a maximum six months. Jupiter will enter Leo in mid-July 2014 and will put an end to the era of lace. Saturn will enter Sagittarius in December 2014 and will bring us a very different fashion solutions.
